ANIMAL CONTROL SHELTER

The Animal Control Shelter encourages the adoption of shelter dogs by responsible persons.  You are invited to visit the Animal Shelter to select a pet from a variety of dogs normally available for adoption .  Most dogs that are housed at the shelter have been abandoned or surrendered to the shelter for a variety of reasons.

All dogs that reside in the City of Winnemucca or Humboldt County must be licensed on an annual basis.  Licenses can be purchased at the Winnemucca Police Department for dogs that live within the Winnemucca city limits.  Licenses can be purchased at the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office for dogs that live in the surrounding Humboldt County area.  Requirements to obtain a dog license include a current rabies vaccination certificate from your veterinarian.  Licenses are renewed in January of each year.  A late fee is assessed starting on February 1st.

The Animal Control Shelter houses dogs only.  There are no City or County Ordinances regarding the control of cats.

ADOPTION OF DOGS

We encourage adopters of our dogs to be responsible and consider the commitment and time involved in owning a dog.  Most of the dogs that come into the shelter have had very little training and will need a committed person to turn them into a well behaved and positive member of the family.  If you are interested in adopting a dog from our shelter, please call us at (772) 623-6403.  The adoption of an adult dog residing within the City limits is $35.00 and within the County, $34.00.  This fee includes micro chipping, rabies vaccination and dog license.  The spay-neuter fee is charged seperately by the veterinarian.  For a puppy, the fee is $10.00, which includes micro chipping, plus the spay/neuter fee is also charged by the veterinarian.  A deposit of $168.00 for females and $118.00 for males is required on the adoption of all unaltered dogs.  It is a Nevada State Law that ALL animals being adopted from a shelter must be spayed or neutered.
