The City Council meets for the purposes of making and amending City laws and ordinances, developing policy and making decisions for governing the City. The regular Council meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of each month (unless scheduled otherwise) at 2:00 p.m. in the City Hall meeting room located at 90 West Fourth Street. The meetings are open to the public and all are invited to attend. The Mayor is the chief executive of the City, elected for a four-year term, who presides over all meetings of the Council and votes on Council actions only in the case of a tie vote. The Mayor has veto power over the Council votes which can be overridden by a four (4) or five (5) Council vote. The Council is the governing body of the City. There are five (5) Council seats and members are elected by the electors of the City at large and serve four-year, staggered terms. See Winnemucca Municipal Code Title 2, Chapter 2.16 regarding meeting guidelines.
